How to Factory Reset a Nobi Gateway

In this article, you will learn how to factory reset a Nobi Gateway.

What

To move your Gateway to a new housing unit, you first need to perform a factory reset. A factory reset does two things: it returns the Gateway to its default settings and removes the area in the housing unit it was previously linked to. After this, you’re ready to physically remove the Gateway.

A full factory reset needs both the Nobi mobile app and the physical RESET button on the device, in either order. For the app, you’ll need a mobile device with the Nobi mobile app installed.

Why

It’s important to factory reset a Nobi Gateway before you remove it from the housing unit. If you don’t, the device would still behave as if it’s located in the old housing unit. Therefore, any escalations triggered would indicate the wrong housing unit.

Detailed steps

To fully factory reset a Nobi Gateway, complete both parts below, in either order. If you only do one, the Gateway is not fully factory reset.

Factory reset in the Nobi mobile app

  1. From the dashboard, tap the three lines in the top left to open the navigation menu.
  2. Navigate to Housing units in the left menu.
  3. Choose the housing unit with the Gateway you want to factory reset and press the three dots.
  4. Press Edit.
  5. Tap on the Areas tab.
  6. Select the onboarded Gateway you want to factory reset.
  7. From the Settings tab, press Edit.
  8. Scroll down and press Factory reset.
  9. Confirm you wish to factory reset the Gateway.
  10. The Gateway’s LED will revert to flashing blue and green. You will be brought back to the Areas tab.

Factory reset with the physical RESET button

  1. Locate the physical factory RESET button on the Gateway.
  2. Using a pin, press and hold the RESET button for 5–10 seconds, or until the Gateway’s LED starts flashing blue and green to indicate it has been factory reset.
Note: The physical RESET button factory resets the Gateway, but not its configuration. The app factory reset removes the area from the housing unit. Both are needed before the Gateway can be onboarded again.

Once you have completed both parts, the Gateway is fully factory reset. It can now be onboarded into an area.
