Wearable Calls

In this article, you will learn what Wearable Calls are, how they work with Nobi, and how they let residents request help beyond their housing unit.

What

A wearable call is a resident call that starts from a wearable call button linked directly to the resident.

The resident can wear this device at all times. It fits in a pendant or wristband holder, which simply holds the wearable call button. When the resident presses it, a signal goes through the nearest Nobi light or Gateway in range, and the escalation starts. This means the resident can ask for help anywhere in the community where Nobi lights or Gateways are installed and working, not just in their housing unit. The escalation then clearly shows the location of the nearest Nobi light or Gateway.

Wearable calls follow the configured escalation procedure. How care staff are alerted depends on whether Escalations via Nobi Mobile App is turned on. When it is on, the wearable call goes to all available caregivers in the Nobi Mobile App. There, they can see who is responding and who has claimed the wearable call, which gives everyone a clear overview of the escalation. When it is off, Nobi alerts care staff with a phone call from Nobi only. Nobi makes phone calls to the numbers in the escalation procedure, one by one, until someone answers and confirms by pressing “1”. If the wearable call is still open 10 minutes after the last phone call, Nobi begins phone calling again.

On the dashboard, wearable calls show in the Personal & communal calls section, not on a housing unit card. This section appears automatically when there is a person-based escalation, such as a wearable call or a Badge-triggered assistance call.

During a wearable call, the Nobi light does not let users analyse the situation. You also cannot call the resident through the light. This is because the resident can be anywhere within range of Nobi, such as a common area. Limiting analysis helps protect privacy.

Who can close a wearable call remotely depends on the Close remotely setting for resident calls in Preferences. If No one is selected, nobody can close a wearable call remotely, not even managers. If this is limited, close the wearable call in person with proximity closing: move near the resident’s wearable call button, or scan it with the Nobi Mobile App. In the Nobi Mobile App, a wearable call shows a notice asking you to move near the device. If your phone does not support this, you see a warning instead.

Why

Residents are not always in their housing unit when they need help. They may be walking in the hallway, sitting in a common area, or visiting another housing unit. Wearable calls let residents ask care staff for help outside their housing unit too.

The wearable call connects to the nearest Nobi light or Gateway. This helps caregivers quickly see where the resident is and respond without delay.

This gives residents independence and peace of mind, wherever they are within range of a Nobi light or Gateway.

A typical shift with Wearable Calls

In the morning, a resident leaves their housing unit and walks to the common lounge.

While there, they start to feel unwell. The resident presses their wearable call button.

The wearable call goes through the nearest Nobi light or Gateway and clearly shows the location. Caregivers receive the alert in the Nobi Mobile App and see who is responding.

Later that day, another resident presses their wearable call button while walking down the hallway. Once again, the nearest Nobi light or Gateway passes on the signal, Nobi starts the escalation, and the team responds.

There is no searching and no confusion about the location.

The resident can ask for help with the press of a button, wherever they are.
