How to Change the Housing Unit Type

In this article you will learn how to adjust the type of a housing unit, such as when a single-person housing unit becomes a multi-person housing unit.

What

Sometimes the way a housing unit is allocated changes, and the housing unit needs to be changed to another type. You can update the housing unit type at any time from the housing unit overview. Changing the housing unit type will impact how many residents can be assigned to that housing unit.

The following housing unit type changes are available in Nobi:

  • a single-person housing unit can become a multi-person housing unit. This is not possible when the housing unit has a Gen 1 light. The housing unit type is then locked.
  • a multi-person housing unit can become a single-person housing unit, once the second resident has been moved to another housing unit.
  • a multi-person housing unit can switch between one double bed and two single beds.
  • a common area can become a single-person or multi-person housing unit, as long as no device type has been chosen for it yet.
  • two single-person housing units can be combined into a Jack and Jill housing unit, with help from Nobi Support.

In a multi-person housing unit, the most restrictive privacy settings of the linked residents will be applied. Some smart monitoring features work differently, depending on the bed setup:

  • One double bed: night reports and the bed-related monitoring events are not available.
  • Two single beds: each resident has their own night reports and bed-related monitoring events, once the beds are identified.

Switching the bed setup

  • From one double bed to two single beds: Nobi creates two beds, Bed A and Bed B. Residents who are already linked to the housing unit are placed on a free bed automatically. You still need to identify the beds before Nobi can tell the residents apart.
  • From two single beds to one double bed: the beds are removed. The residents stay linked to the housing unit.

Note: If the light is moved to a new room or repurposed for a different function, always reset it to factory settings to ensure a clean setup.

Why

The housing unit type determines how Nobi applies resident privacy settings, monitoring events, and other smart monitoring features. Keeping the type in line with how the housing unit is allocated means Nobi keeps behaving the way the residents and your team expect, without a new setup.
